RANGE/HABITAT: Sunfish like temperate and tropical waters of 50°F or more. They are present in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. There are some differences between each ocean but not between hemispheres. BEHAVIOR: Sunfish swim at various levels and spend most of their lives submerged.

Green sunfish nest in shallow water colonies where nests are often closely packed. Spawning occurs in late spring, when water temperatures rise above 70°F, and may continue throughout the summer. Adults feed on insects and small fish.
